Celtic Temperate Rainforests

This unique Celtic Rainforest enviroment opens questions of time; the length of time this environment has taken and why rain is such a gift is both life changing and life enhancing.

I believe in environmental responsibility; of inclusion and relevance.

The Celtic Rainforest is where my artwork lies, having been studying and visiting it for a year; Wales, the West Coast of Scotland and the West Country. How mosses and lichens grow, their extended length of time, the soils and rocks, the geological substrate, global rainforests, temperate trees and rocks is a fascinating area of scientific study and an ecosystem I would really value working with scientists and environmental experts on. We will look at the importance of rain, water and time.

I have been studying and trying to identify the somewhat different world of lichens, bryophytes and mosses, as well as identifying trees in winter through form and bark.

I have been multiple times to the Elan Valley Centre to learn about the Celtic rainforest. I have visited many of the most important woods in Wales, both in Mid Wales, in Snowdonia, as well as the Hafren forest.

I have met read numerous books on the subject, of course Diana Beresford-Kroeger, my hero Benedict Macdonald, Suzanne Simard and the ‘wood wide web’, Tristan Gooley, Guy Shrubsole, Dave Goulson, and Robert Macfarlane.

What a fascinating world is underground, nematodes networks of soil and mycorrhizal fungi. Having read, I then have had the joy to dance with divine Merlin Sheldrake.
